Fishing Update – Rotoiti

We were down at Lake Rotoiti for opening day/weekend and managed to hook into a few fish despite the dismal reports and not so great weather. We were jigging out by the 5 knot marker at Gisborne Point on opening morning for an hour and managed to get a 6.4 pound trout. We spent some more time out there over the next couple of days and managed to catch one more fish a nice condition 4 pounder further out into the lake this time. The fly which was most successful was a Jack Sprat fished as the top fly in a three fly jigging rig. On opening day because of a horrible wind blowing straight into the outlet into the Ohau Channel last year’s catch was unfortunately not repeated with very few if any fish caught.
